Utah Highway Patrol responds to serious vehicle crashes on I-70 and I-80

SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah Highway Patrol responded to a pair of vehicle accidents Friday on I-70 and I-80.

Accident on I-70

According to UHP, the incident, involving seven vehicles, occurred along I-70 near mile marker 120 in Emery County at 4:06 p.m. UHP reports that there is suffered injuries as a result of the accident. However, there were no fatalities.

All eastbound lanes of I-70 were closed late Friday night. The UHP indicates that traffic is diverted at kilometer post 116.

Vehicle crashes on I-80

UHP also responded to a vehicle crash on I-80 westbound at mile post 136 Friday night. The three right-hand lanes on I-80 westbound were closed, along with all eastbound lanes.

For unknown reasons, according to UHP, a driver of a westbound vehicle lost control of the vehicle and veered left. It rolled after hitting dirt in the median.

The UHP indicates that a passenger in the rear of the vehicle was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected. The UHP indicates that the passenger landed in an eastbound taxiway. The passenger was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries.

The UHP says the deficiency is under investigation.
