Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has asked officials to analyze the socio-economic importance of the Macherla-Karampudi-Narsaraopet-Sattenapalli-Sirigiripadu-Yerragondapalem road to declare it a national road (NH ) pursuant to a request made by the Member. GVL Narasimha Rao.
In a letter to the MP, Mr Gadkari said that while a new policy of declaring new NHs was under consideration by the central government, he told officials to look at socio-economic parameters on the basis from which the road could be recognized as NH.
Factors that would be taken into consideration are traffic density, optimization of efficiency of movement of goods and passengers, improvement of socio-economic development of the region, roads linking existing highways, major roads for the development of tourism, etc.
Based on these points, the proposal will be assessed for prioritization and inclusion in NH construction programs, Gadkari said.
