Sgr-Leh national road will be open to traffic from March 25

One-way traffic from Sgr to Leh on odd days, from Leh to Sgr on even days: Div Com Kashmir

Srinagar, March 22: One-way traffic on Srinagar-Leh trunk road from March 25, Kashmir Division Commissioner (Div Com) Pandurang K Pole said while co-chairing a meeting with Ladakh Division Commissioner Saugat Biswas regarding the opening of Srinagar-Leh National Highway.

The meeting was attended by DC Ganderbal; DC Kargil; Chief Engineers of R&B, MED, BEACON & VIJAYAK; Regional Transport Officer, Kashmir; SSP Kargil, SSP Ganderbal, SSP Traffic Ladakh, DSP Traffic Rural Kashmir and Executive Director NHIDCL.

The meeting decided to open the Srinagar-Leh trunk road to traffic from March 25 with the movement of vehicles from Srinagar to Leh on the same day.

The meeting further decided that only light vehicles will initially travel on the highway according to the even-odd pattern.

On occasion, Div Com Kashmir has stated that one way traffic from Srinagar to Leh will run on odd days while traffic from Leh to Srinagar will run on even days.

He added that from next week there will be no transport movement on Fridays.

The cut-off time for vehicles on the Kashmir side will remain at 6 a.m. in Sonmarg, Ganderbal side and 8.30 a.m. on Kargil side in Meenamarg.

The meeting further decided to establish health check centers, establishment of a common control room, traffic checkpoints, positioning of recovery vans, operation of weighbridges to limit the overloading of vehicles in addition to allowing the movement of only vehicles with anti-skid chains.

Regarding any weather and avalanche advisories, relevant officers have been asked to share information on a daily basis. (GNS)
