Repair of the tunnel: traffic restored on the national road Jammu-Srinagar

The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway was closed to traffic on Tuesday morning to repair the Panthyal Tunnel while the Mughal Highway was opened to light vehicle traffic, officials said.

The traffic department said in a 6am tweet that both sides of traffic had been halted on the Jammu-Srinagar highway in preparation for steel tunnel repairs at Panthyal.

“Traffic will be released after clearance by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI),” he said.

Two other major roads – the Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumari road on the Ladakh side and the Mughal road on the Shopian side – were open to vehicular traffic. “However, the Mughal road is for light motor vehicles only,” he said.

Both sides of traffic were halted on Jammu-Srinagar highway due to repair of steel tunnel at Panthyal on Monday morning and opened later after few hours.

On Sunday evening, the Mughal road was blocked in Chandimarh due to a landslide.

    Police arrested a 25-year-old for sodomizing a 13-year-old boy in Manimajra. The accused, identified as Sanju, lives in Shanti Nagar, Manimajra. The boy told police he was playing in a park a few days ago when Sanju took him to a deserted place and sodomized him. He said that after two days, Sanju again tried to drag him away from the park, but he managed to run away.
